An Ideal Workspace

As I write this, I am sitting in a strange wooden chair that my college has provided for me in my dorm room. Though I am lucky enough to even have the space for a desk in my bedroom in NYC, it is far from my future dream space.

Having an ideal workspace is a life essential for everyone. A clean, zen space opens up room for inspiration, creativity and productivity. It reflects who we are and what work we do.

Though it may be a little ways away, I can almost see my workspace now: neutral colors, minimalistic furniture, wooden pieces, room for my computer, the epitome of organization. I would make sure to have flowers
somewhere close by, a space for an inspiration board with my favorite quotes and people I can view, and an area with pictures of my family and friends. I would keep the theme to: “The clearer the space, the clearer the mind…”
Like I said, finding enough space to work is not easy in NYC. Usually it’s either my local Starbucks or Barnes & Noble for me, these aren’t the most inspirational spaces by any means.

Preferably, the space could also be a large, airy room with lots of natural light pouring in…. but let’s not get crazy.

However, I recently learned there is an easier way of attaining a dream workspace. WeWork, a co-working company, came up with this brilliant idea: shared workspace. Freelancers, startups and entrepreneurs can become members and pay monthly for there own workspaces provided by WeWork all over the world. For a startup company in New York, this is a dream. I have heard of people starting out on their cramped bedroom floors, WeWork makes it so much easier. Not only do you have the space to create, you are surrounding by similar, hardworking individuals. It’s the perfect combination of networking and getting better work done.

In the meantime, here is what you can do to vamp up your space right now…

  • Get some great office supplies. Poppin has some awesome and colorful desk supplies that can cheer anyone up!
  • A comfy chair is necessary. If you want to really get some work done, that will require quite a bit of chair sitting. Amazon has a list of some of the best desk chairs.
  • Add a plant to your desk. Did you know that plants can decrease stress and increase productivity by at least 12%?  Sounds good enough to me.
  • Declutter! Need I say more?
  • Add something that inspires you. That can be pictures, a book, a magazine, a quote. Whatever gets you in your element.

A beautiful workspace can increase our productivity, creativity and happiness. What is your dream workspace like?

How To Get Happy and Succeed in Spring

Image

Well….. almost Spring..

Its still freezing in NYC, and apparently its snowing tonight! WTH? Its almost April. But it must mean that with such a rough winter.. will come a beautiful Spring. I am so excited for Spring!! Its the season of renewal: flowers bloom, the sun comes out. Winter was a time to conserve energy and with Spring we must detox and fill ourselves with happiness once again !

And I don’t know about you, but this was a pretty rough winter.. So I have come up with some ideas to get you back in track and feeling amazing!

1.) Get a Haircut.

It may sound simple but getting a haircut makes such a huge difference in how you feel and look. I always feel like I can take on the world with a new haircut !

2.) Make Goals and Act on Them.

Its hard to get things done when its cold out. And with little sun you become vitamin D deficient. With Spring coming around there are so many brilliant ideas out there to help act on goals.

Here are some of my favorites:

Mindbloom – a creative way to track and make life improvements.

Learnvest – a powerful website that will set you up with a financial plan- for free!

Clear – (app) I love this app! It is so simple, easy  and fun to use.

Lift – (app) This app has helped me out immensely. You can input accomplished daily goals and interact with the apps community.

3.) Express Gratitude.

I can’t say it enough: gratitude is everything. Did you see Matthew McConaugheys best actor Oscar speech?

Heres some things to remember about gratitude :

I am a firm believer that happiness comes from energy. When your tired or feeling sick, do you feel happy? Probably not! Here are some tips on keeping your energy up ..

  • take an epsom salt bath- this helps detoxify the body
  • get acupuncture – yes, it can be expensive, but it will help you immensely.. even once every two months.
  • eat healthy and especially green food. – cut back processed foods, wheat, dairy and sugar.
  • exercise regularly- even if its a small walk, especially around nature!
  • take vitamins- find out which would benefit you.
  • meditate- at least once a day.
  • sleep– nuff said.

5.) Don’t Be Hard on Yourself

Success can only be defined by ourselves. This Spring I encourage you to be kind to yourself. Save up and go to a spa, take regular walks in the woods, maybe even take a road trip. When we do the things we love, we have more love for ourselves- creating success.

I hope everyone is having a lovely week!!

JACK from Grace Jackson on Vimeo.

How is everyone? I have been so busy at school, but learning a lot.
Lately I’ve realized how grateful I am for the weekend. Resting after such a hectic week is very much needed.
Some of my favorite things to do on the weekend include…

-discovering new tea
-window shopping
-napping all day
-discovering new music
-reading a great book
-writing in my journal
-watching my favorite TV shows
-eating my favorite food
-discovering new parts of NYC

above you will see I posted a short film called Jack that I stumbled upon on tumblr. What I love so much about this video is how happy this man is, and how simply he has lived. It reminds me that you can live without much and still have a great life. I hope you all enjoy it too.
And as we speak, NYC has just gotten its first snow fall of December!

My First Fall in NYC

autumn nyc

I am a big big fan of Autumn. And this is the first time I am living in NYC starting as a college student. So far I am enjoying it ! It is such a change from living in the suburbs of NJ.

NYC in the fall can be absolutely beautiful. And I am so grateful to be able to wake up every morning and experience it.

Some of my favorite Autumn quotes ….

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.”
― L.M. MontgomeryAnne of Green Gables

“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.”
― George Eliot

“No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace as I have seen in one autumnal face.”
― John Donne

“Autumn…the year’s last, loveliest smile.”
― William Cullen Bryant

Time Out Magazine has a list of things to do in the Fall in NYC which is so much fun! Theres 101 choices but some of my favorite are…

  • Watch the leaves fall at Green-wood cemetery and New York Botanical Garden.
  • March in the Village Halloween Parade
  • Pay respects at the 9/11 memorial
  • Go see an indie rock band at Webster Hall
  • Visit the New York Philharmonic
  • Hit up Spa Week!
  • Go up to Queens County farm and find some pumpkins 🙂
  • Get lost in central park
  • Shop at Brooklyn Flea Market

I hope everyone is getting ready for Fall and had a wonderful summer!
