An Ideal Workspace

As I write this, I am sitting in a strange wooden chair that my college has provided for me in my dorm room. Though I am lucky enough to even have the space for a desk in my bedroom in NYC, it is far from my future dream space.

Having an ideal workspace is a life essential for everyone. A clean, zen space opens up room for inspiration, creativity and productivity. It reflects who we are and what work we do.

Though it may be a little ways away, I can almost see my workspace now: neutral colors, minimalistic furniture, wooden pieces, room for my computer, the epitome of organization. I would make sure to have flowers
somewhere close by, a space for an inspiration board with my favorite quotes and people I can view, and an area with pictures of my family and friends. I would keep the theme to: “The clearer the space, the clearer the mind…”
Like I said, finding enough space to work is not easy in NYC. Usually it’s either my local Starbucks or Barnes & Noble for me, these aren’t the most inspirational spaces by any means.

Preferably, the space could also be a large, airy room with lots of natural light pouring in…. but let’s not get crazy.

However, I recently learned there is an easier way of attaining a dream workspace. WeWork, a co-working company, came up with this brilliant idea: shared workspace. Freelancers, startups and entrepreneurs can become members and pay monthly for there own workspaces provided by WeWork all over the world. For a startup company in New York, this is a dream. I have heard of people starting out on their cramped bedroom floors, WeWork makes it so much easier. Not only do you have the space to create, you are surrounding by similar, hardworking individuals. It’s the perfect combination of networking and getting better work done.

In the meantime, here is what you can do to vamp up your space right now…

  • Get some great office supplies. Poppin has some awesome and colorful desk supplies that can cheer anyone up!
  • A comfy chair is necessary. If you want to really get some work done, that will require quite a bit of chair sitting. Amazon has a list of some of the best desk chairs.
  • Add a plant to your desk. Did you know that plants can decrease stress and increase productivity by at least 12%?  Sounds good enough to me.
  • Declutter! Need I say more?
  • Add something that inspires you. That can be pictures, a book, a magazine, a quote. Whatever gets you in your element.

A beautiful workspace can increase our productivity, creativity and happiness. What is your dream workspace like?

Some truly thought provoking questions…

largeIf any of  you are interested in some new-agey awesome blog posts, quotes, stories and pictures, I highly recommend a website I visit from time to time called high existence. Its all about questioning life and certain beliefs, what truly is right from wrong. One post they had was about some questions one might not usually ask themselves. I found it very interesting and wanted to share some of it with all of you! Try asking yourself some!

  • If you had the opportunity to get a large message across to a large group of people, what would your message be?
  • Have you done anything lately worth remembering?
  • Which activities make you lose track of time?
  • What is the difference between living and existing?
  • When you are 90 years old, what will matter to you most?
  • What do you believe stands about between you and complete happiness?

Let me know what you think! And I hope you are all having a beautiful Saturday morning!

P.s. heres the original link :p

Graduation week!

I have finally graduated from high school. I can not even explain how happy this makes me. I realize one of the easiest parts of my life is over (haha) but I’m just so ready to move on and try something new! My high school experience taught me a lot:

1.)Dont judge others, you do not know what they’re going through

2.) How much my generation is obsessed with themselves and materialism

3.) How surprisingly kind some can be

4.) How to handle much rejection and not let it affect me

5.) Spirituality

6.) Do not care what others think of you

7.)Over-thinking will kill you

8.) Health is so so so important

9.) I appreciate who I am

10.) I can do anything I want in my life as long as I work hard.

So I was thinking lately, I really want to work harder I do. But why can’t I? My mind is always foggy, I’m always so tired. I am about to start my new life and I want to start on an excellent note. Recently I keep finding, seeing, or hearing things about juice detoxes. I know how good it would be for me to do it, I am just nervous I’ll fail and be extremely disappointed. I also…. love… food. A lot. Fortunately I am not over weight by any means, but I do have several immune related health problems. And I know changing my diet will help me with everything. Quiet honestly I think its inevitable and I should just go out and buy a juicer now. My sister is even willing to join in with me! Maybe Ill try it out and post how its going everyday, and include pictures.

I feel like my diet has also affected me emotionally, and its been taken out on others :/

I hope you’re all doing well. Summer is here and I am so happy for that and thankful!!

A Beautiful Quote

So Much Happiness

It is difficult to know what to do with so much happiness.
With sadness there is something to rub against,
a wound to tend with lotion and cloth.
When the world falls in around you, you have pieces to pick up,
something to hold in your hands, like ticket stubs or change.

But happiness floats.
It doesn’t need you to hold it down.
It doesn’t need anything.
Happiness lands on the roof of the next house, singing,
and disappears when it wants to.
You are happy either way.
Even the fact that you once lived in a peaceful tree house
and now live over a quarry of noise and dust
cannot make you unhappy.
Everything has a life of its own,
it too could wake up filled with possibilities
of coffee cake and ripe peaches,
and love even the floor which needs to be swept,
the soiled linens and scratched records…..

Since there is no place large enough
to contain so much happiness,
you shrug, you raise your hands, and it flows out of you
into everything you touch. You are not responsible.
You take no credit, as the night sky takes no credit
for the moon, but continues to hold it, and share it,
and in that way, be known.

~ Naomi Shihab Nye

I found this quote from my favorite blog, Happiness Is… by Shannon Eileen. You’ll find me posting a lot about her on here I am sure. This quote is one of the most beautiful things written in my eyes. What is greater than happiness? Love? Love is happiness.

Embarrassingly enough, I had absolutely no idea who Naomi Shihab Nye is, so I took the time to look her up… And I found that she is a “wandering poet”, novelist and songwriter. She has won quite the amount of awards in her day.

I find my happiness with peace: when I am doing what I love with whom I love, and when the people around me are content. It’s difficult for me to find peace at home when I have my parents constantly trying to convince me that summer reading is the most important thing on this planet. Like I said previously in my Zen Habits post, we really really do not like to be told what to do. Constantly. All the time. It wont get done.

By the way I wanted to mention that the author of the Zen Habits post, Joshua Becker, tweeted at me! I am really glad that this got out to people and maybe it will help them understand their teens more! But anyway..

I wanted to share this with you guys because I really believe we can read this and it will remind us of a time of pure happiness. If you are feeling down read this post and imagine it in your mind. Block out the part thats saying “this is stupid.” Really try to find the peace in your mind.

I’d also like to mention that I have the Kik app for my iphone. If anyone is in dire need to talk I am available: oliviamullen1

I hope you are all having great last days of summer. The weather has been beautiful here. Also I’d like to mention my concert went great! It started out pouring rain and then the sun came out!

Love and Happiness.
